Q: How do I sign up?
A: Send an email to IrthNet Support requesting an account. Include information regarding the kind of site you're interested in having hosted and the site's URL if it's currently hosted elsewhere. You'll be asked to read the Irth Networks Terms of Service and provide name, address and phone number contact information (see Irth Networks' Privacy Policy for disclosure details). Once the details are settled it takes about 72 hours to setup the site.

A: The simple pleasure of giving back to the community that has given much to IrthNet's proprietors over the years. More information about this can be found on Irth Networks About page.

Q: What exactly is a not-for-profit/non-profit/non-commercial website?
A: Put simply it's a website operated for an individual or organization that does not have a profit motive. A few examples to elucidate:

Not-for-profit/non-profit

Children's museum website
Game fan website
Personal blog

Specific interest club or group website

For profit

Website for musical group with recording contract
Trinket sales catalog and website

Q: Does anyone actually use your service; I'm unable to find a list of hosted sites?
A: Irth Networks hosts over fifty websites with two or more being added every week. We don't post a list of hosted sites out of respect for the privacy of our users.

Account Feature Answers

Q: Do you host a domain's DNS system as well?
A: Yes, all domains such as yourdomain.com can have their IrthNet as their authoritative DNS. Registration or modification of your domain is out of the scope of this question therefore please email IrthNet Support for more information.

Q: Is PHP included in accounts and if so what version?
A: Yes, it's included with version 4.3.3 currently running. Note that IrthNet also runs Turck's MMCache which delivers up to a 400% performance improvement of PHP scripts without requiring any script changes, loss of dynamic content, or other application compromises.

Q: Is Java included in accounts and if so what version?
A: Yes, it's included with version 1.4.2 currently running. Note that IrthNet also runs version 4.1.27 of the Apache Tomcat Servlet/JSP engine. Send an email to IrthNet Support for information regarding activation for your website.

Q: Is a MySQL database included in accounts? Are transactions enabled? Online management?
A: Yes, it's included with full transaction support. Online maintenance is provided via local installation of phpMyAdmin. Send an email to IrthNet Support for information regarding activation for your website.

Q: Is Microsoft ASP/ASP.NET website scripting included in accounts?
A: No, ASP scripting is not available due to it being a proprietary Microsoft technology which only functions on their operating systems. We are investigating the feasibiluty of support for ASP.NET. Be sure to check the IrthNet homepage for information regarding availability.

Q: Are Microsoft FrontPage server extensions available?
A: No, Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions are not supported. If this is critical to your website please send an email to IrthNet Support for information about alternatives.

Q: Are CGI scripts permitted and if so how are they uploaded?
A: Yes, but due to various security and performance issues usage of CGI scripts are discouraged. If a script is necessary for your website send an email to IrthNet Support for information about the deployment procedure.

Q: How much disk space do accounts start with? Is more available?
A: All accounts begin with 100MB. More is available on an as-needed basis. Send an email to IrthNet Support to request additional space.

Q: How much data transfer do accounts start with? Is more available?
A: All accounts begin with 320kbps of bandwidth. More is available on an as-needed basis. Send an email to IrthNet Support to request additional bandwidth.

Q: Are email accounts accessible via POP, IMAP, and Webmail available? How many accounts? How much diskspace per account?
Email accounts are available in either the irth.net domain, such as mmouse@irth.net, or at your IrthNet hosted domain, such as hburgler@mydomain.com. All email accounts are accessible via POP, IMAP, and Webmail. We'll create a reasonable number of mailboxes with additional made available with sufficient justification. Each mailbox has 10MBs of disk space which can be increased as needed. Send an email to IrthNet Support to request an email account.
