We're a website catering to the web/mail/etc. hosting needs of the not-for-profit community. This runs the gamut from clubs, elementary schools, and children's museums to kids of every age exploring the implementation of the Internet. IrthNet's services are freely available to all manner of not-for-profit organizations. Since there's no marketing budget every organization involved with IrthNet occurred solely due to word of mouth. That being the case your help would be appreciated. Would you, or any not-for-profit organization you know of, benefit from a free web and email hosting service? There are no obscure advertising, linking, or rights requirements such as those of FortuneCity or GeoCities.
Irth Networks runs whenever possible on GNU/free and open source software. This is not only due to its obvious cost savings but also for its legendary functional breadth and reliability.
A sampling of what's currently running at IrthNet:
Irth Networks is managed by Jason Rimmer, a sometimes Director of Software Engineering and sometimes software engineer in Florida.
Irth Networks started out as a commercial venture with the name Rhumba Networks doing professional hosting for small businesses. On the side a few websites were also hosted for a variety of non-profits including a children's museum and a high school students club.
Disillusionment with the webhosting industry promptly set in as it was found to be more interested in competing strictly on price rather than quality of service. At the same time the number of not-for-profit organizations that were being hosted was climbing rapidly. The operators of RhumbaNet, being completely self-taught and wanting to give something back to the community that enabled and supported their education recognized the perfect opportunity to do so. Hence, the commercial venture was shutdown and transformed into Irth Networks.
Irth Networks is located on the beautiful Gulf coast of Florida. Drop us an email if you find yourself in the neighborhood as we love to meet the people we work with.
